Police are investigating a burglary after intruders barged into a man’s home while he was outside having a cigarette.
The homeowner was having a smoke outside the house when intruders stormed into the property and stole property including jewellery.
The man sustained suspected rib injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital by paramedics.
It happened on Aldridge Court in Ushaw Moor, County Durham on Saturday (November 25) evening just before 9pm.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9pm, as the householder was outside his home having a cigarette, intruders barged inside and stole property, including jewellery.

“Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to ring Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 402 of November 25.”
The North East Ambulance Service confirmed it attended the scene. A spokesperson said: “We were called to a private address in Ushaw Moor just before 9pm on Saturday evening and dispatched a double crewed ambulance.
"One patient was taken to hospital.”
