A man remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital following a street assault in County Durham on Wednesday (November 22) evening that saw police and CSI vans attend. 

The incident is believed to have happened in the Proudfoot Drive area of Bishop Auckland.

A man in his early 30s sustained serious injuries during the assault and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for treatment.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detectives from Bishop Auckland CID have launched an investigation and are following several lines of enquiry.

On Thursday (November 23), police officers and CSI vans were spotted on Proudfoot Drive and surrounding areas, while a cordon could be seen in place.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident, and he is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
