Police were called after a man was spotted with a gun near a primary school as children were getting ready to leave for the day.
Officers attended Bluebell Meadow Primary School in Trimdon Station, near Sedgefield, on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Police received a call at 3.25pm yesterday reporting that a man with an air rifle had been seen walking across a field near a primary school in Trimdon Station.
“Officers attended the scene and stayed to provide reassurance as children left school for the day.”
The school has been contacted for comment.
