A DEVELOPER has submitted plans to build 58 affordable homes on land between two County Durham villages.

The three hectare application site lies to the south west of Springfield Cottage, Gladstone Terrace, Station Town, near Wingate.

The plans are for seven different house types, two and three-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows.

There are a range of farm and industrial buildings scattered on the land together with commercial retail premises.

The site is accessed from the public highway, Hadrian Court, to the west and has direct pedestrian/vehicular access directly from Front Street.

There are no public footpaths or rights of way across the land.

The site is located at the south-east sector of Wingate and bisects two Parish Councils, Wingate Parish Council and Hutton Henry and Station Town Parish Council.

Wingate Parish Council has objected to the plans, stating that services in the village are at capacity and cannot take a further increase in the population.

The council said an increase in the population as a result of the development will add pressure to local doctor surgeries and schools.
