Nine motorists have been named and fined in court after being caught speeding in County Durham.
The cases were heard at Peterlee Magistrates' Court. They are:
Hamish Brown, 42, of Croftfoot Farm, Denny, Falkirk, exceeded 70 mph in a Toyota Hilux on April 4 on the A66 Galley Bank, Barnard Castle. Pleaded guilty and fined £307 and ordered to pay surcharge of £123 and costs of £110 - total £540. Driving record endorsed with 3 points.
Kathryn Louise Hardman, 38, of St James Gardens, Witton le Wear, Bishop Auckland, exceeded 30 mph in a BMW 5 series on March 24, on the A689 at Crook. Pleaded guilty and fined £146 and ordered to pay surcharge £58 and costs £110 - total £314. No obligatory driving disqualification. Special reasons: loss of employment resulting in loss of home. Son would lose opportunity to attend College and to complete his apprenticeship.
Kevin Burke, 45, of Well Bank, Billy Row, Crook, exceeded 30 mph in a Ford Transit on March 15on the namely A689 High West Road, Crook. Pleaded guilty and fined £83 and surcharge of £33 and costs of £110 - total £226. No obligatory driving disqualification. Special reasons: loss of employment which will result in loss of home, will not have opportunity to have contact with son.
Emily Louisa Vince, 43, of Lily Gardens, Dipton, Stanley, exceeded 30 mph in Vauxhall Mokka on February 13, at B6296, Satley Village. Pleaded guilty fined £100, ordered to pay surcharge of £40 and £110 costs - total £250. No obligatory driving disqualification. Special reasons: loss of employment resulting in loss of home, caring responsibilities for children.
Gary Dixon, 55, Allan Street, Easington Village, exceeded 30 mph in Renault Traffic van January 12 on the B1283 in Easington Village. Case found proved and fined £250. Disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months due to repeat offending. Driving record endorsed.
He exceeded 70 mph speed limit in a Renault traffic van on January 19 on the A66 Galley Bank, Barnard Castle. Case found proved. Fined £125, surcharge £50 and costs £110 - total £285. Disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for 6 months (concurrent)
Philip Telford, 40, of Greenways, Consett, exceeded 30 mph in a Mercedes Sprinter van on February 21 no the B6309 Watling Street, Leadgate. Case found proved and fined £166, ordered to pay surcharge of £66 and costs of £110 - total £342. No obligatory driving disqualification. Special reasons: loss of employment resulting in loss of home, loss of contact with children.
Paul Dodd, 63, of Barr Hills, Consett, County Durham, exceeded 30 mph in a Ford Transit on March 7 on the B6309 in Leadgate. Pleaded guilty and fined £293, ordered to pay £117 surcharge and £110 costs - total £520. No obligatory driving disqualification. Special reasons: Business will collapse, resulting in loss of employment to employees.
Omar Dean Ames, 45, of South Shields, exceeded 30 mph in a Ford C-Max on March 1 on A693 Blind Lane, at Chester-le-Street. Pleaded guilty and fined £146, ordered to pay surcharge of £58 and costs of £110 - total £314. Driving record endorsed with 3 points.
Michael Simpson, 26, of South Magdalene, Medomsley, Consett, exceeded 30 mph in Audi A3 on February 14 on B6309 Watling Street, Leadgate. Pleaded guilty and fined £108, ordered to pay surcharge of £55 and costs of £110 - total £273. Driving record endorsed with 3 points.
