A man has been seriously injured during a street assault in County Durham that has seen two men arrested for the incident.
Emergency services were called to Hilda Terrace in Chester Le Street at around 8am on Wednesday (November 15), following reports of an assault on the street.
A man sustained a serious injury to his hand and was taken to hospital but has since been released.
Two men were arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in custody.
Durham Police has moved to assure residents that this is an isolated incident and no wider threat to the public remains.
A spokesman for the police force said: “Officers are treating this as an isolated incident and would like to reassure the public there is no risk to the wider community.

“Extra patrols have been put in place.
“We would like to thank residents for their patience while we were in attendance at this incident.”
Witnesses are asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 83 of November 15.
