Two people have been taken to hospital following a multi-vehicle crash in a North East town today (Wednesday, November 15).
Emergency services converged on the Meadowgate area of Eston following reports of a collision at about 3pm today.
Three appliances from Cleveland Fire Brigade, along with several police vehicles were on the scene, as well as an air ambulance called in to help members of the North East Ambulance Service.
Two people were treated for their injuries at the scene before they were taken by road to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough by road.
The road remains closed as of midnight while police investigators carry out their inquiries.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision in Meadowgate, Middlesbrough, today (15 November) shortly after 3pm.
"We dispatched two double-crewed ambulances, two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), one clinical team leader, one doctor and we were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service. Two patients were taken to James Cook University Hospital by road."
A Great North Air Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Our critical care team was activated at 3.13pm to reports of a road traffic collision in Eston.
"We had a paramedic and doctor on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 3.20pm.
"Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient, and the patient was taken to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service, accompanied by our team."
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said earlier: "Emergency services are at the scene of a collision in Eston.
"The incident happened on the High Street around 3:10pm today, Wednesday November 15.
"Emergency services remain on the scene dealing with the incident."

Cleveland Police releases an updated statement: "There is a road closure in place on Eston High St at the junction with California Road to Meadowgate due to a collision.
"Please avoid the area. Thank you for your patience."
