An elderly man has been left shaken after he was reportedly assaulted during Saturday's minutes’ silence.
The incident happened while shoppers at The Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland had paused to remember our fallen war heroes.
But while most paid their respects peacefully, a man allegedly assaulted a 75-year-old.
The victim sustained swelling to his face and was left shaken by the incident.
Police confirmed they received a call just after the minutes’ silence at about 11.10am and an investigation is ongoing. Officers are yet to locate their suspect.
The Bridges confirmed it is assisting police with their enquiries.
