A popular North East bar and bistro, is gearing up for a unique jazz-filled Christmas celebration.
The jazz night, at Sunderland's The Engine Room on Monday, December 4, will feature jazzed-up renditions of traditional carols, Christmas pop hits, and well-known songs, all entirely free of charge.
Talented local musicians Michael Young on piano, Paul Grainger on bass, Abbie Finn on drums, and Lindsay Hannon on vocals, will be orchestrating the night.
Highly regarded jazz enthusiast Michael, also the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Sunderland, said: "Expect our own interpretations of Silent Night, Jingle Bells, and Hark the Herald Angels Sing, as well as modern tunes that attendees will undoubtedly recognise."
Born into a musical family, Michael was an organ scholar at Hertford College, Oxford, and completed a PhD in music composition at Durham University, while playing in a respected band.
However, his career in academia took precedence over his jazz pursuits.
Lockdown, however, allowed him to rekindle his passion for jazz, leading him to meet Paul and Abbie.
The trio performed their first gig together at The Engine Room in May this year.
They resumed their performances in July and September, but December 4 marks their first event with singer Lindsay, known for fronting her band, The Lindsay Hannon Plus.
Rhys McKinnell, chief executive of Pub Culture, which runs The Engine Room, said: "We’re featuring four brilliant musicians at the top of their game.
"We believe our Christmas-themed jazz night will provide a pleasant, relaxed start to a busy festive season."

While walk-ins for drinks are welcomed, dining bookings are recommended.
