The amount of coffee consumed by the average UK person in a lifetime has been revealed, according to new research.

A study commissioned by the coffee machine maker Breville polled 2,000 adults who consume the beverage and found they enjoy an average of three cups a day.

As many as 41% revealed they struggle to function properly until they’ve had their first caffeine kick and 7am was the most popular time for a brew.

Additionally, many are averse to trying something new with 43% of consumers admitting they've ordered the same coffee for 21 years.

However, how much coffee will the average UK person drink in a lifetime?

According to Breville, the average UK person will drink around 18,000 litres of coffee in their lifetime.

This equates to a staggering 62,000 mugs, demonstrating that the drink will remain an ever-constant for many.

A spokesman for the brand, Iain Stuart-Crush, said: “As the study shows, UK consumers can't get enough of coffee.

“As anyone who loves a cup will tell you, it very quickly becomes an established part of our daily routines.

“But it’s interesting to see how many people aren’t sure whether they’re making the best out of their coffee at home.

“Perhaps this is why so many people prefer to leave it in the hands of the baristas more often than not."

What are the benefits of drinking coffee?

According to the website Eating Well, there are a number of health benefits to drinking coffee.

These include a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, a reduced risk of Alzheimer's Disease, and better thyroid function.

Alongside that there is perhaps the most obvious benefit in that coffee gives you more energy.

It says: "Coffee beans contain caffeine, a natural stimulant that can help you feel more energised."
