A SCHOOL has applied to Darlington Borough Council for install solar panels on its roof.
Hurworth School, in Hurworth, near Darlington, has submitted the plan for up to 724 solar panels to the roofs of the school buildings.
A planning statement prepared on behalf of the school reads: "The perimeter of the school towards the west is enshrouded with a forest of trees, while in the east they are adequate and large enough to obscure visibility towards the school buildings.

"In addition to the presence of trees these residential areas are 50 metres away from the school so the possibility of seeing the school itself is unlikely.
"The proposal will help the school achieve its ambition of maximising the potential of the site to generate zero-carbon solar electricity as part of its wider decarbonisation strategy.
