A new County Durham eight-lane bowling alley has welcomed its first customers after opening its doors earlier this week.

The first people to book a lane of bowling have visited Peterlee Leisure Centre, which has proudly opened the leisure venue as an extension of its other activity offering.

Opening just in time for the school holidays on Monday (October 30), it has already welcomed families all week to its lanes, with people giving it rave reviews.

The bowling alley, which has aptly been named Strike, has promised fun for beginners right through to professionals.

Alongside the bowling alley, Thrive Peterlee Leisure Centre also unveiled its soft play area on Monday, which young children have given their seal of approval.

On its website, Peterlee Leisure Centre said: "Whether it's your first time swinging a bowling ball or you’re a bowling pro, friends, family and bowling ‘frenemies’ can enjoy hours of fun at Strike ten-pin bowling alley at Peterlee.

"Add another level of excitement to your game with our immersive Spark technology, bowlers can choose graphics to create their very own adventure.

"You can also order coffee, sweet treats and meals from the thrive kitchen."

People are advised to book a lane, due to the new nature of the facility, while the alleys can be booked for parties and private hire.

Meanwhile, another bowling alley is in the pipeline, after it was announced earlier this year that Superbowl would be opening in early 2024 at the Fieldon Bridge development in Bishop Auckland.

Building work is currently taking place at the retail park, which will also see Domino's, The Range, and Burger King at the start of next year.
