A popular North East firework display has been cancelled after an 'unprecedented' amount of rain at the venue, which has seen the lake overlap and boggy conditions at the site.
On Saturday (November 4), hundreds of people were set to enjoy the annual display at Gateshead's Saltwell Park.
However, due to the wind and rain brought by Storm Ciarán, Gateshead Council has made the decision to cancel this year's event.
The council confirmed on Thursday (November 2) evening that the event has been called off, noting the "unprecedented levels" of rainfall brought by the storm.
This year's event was set to feature a fairground, dance and fire shows, a live music DJ set, and food and drink outlets.
The full announcement from Gateshead Council on Thursday, which was posted on the council's Facebook page, read: "Owing to the unprecedented levels of rainfall over recent days, we along with the Fireworks Event Safety Team have inspected Saltwell Park this morning and are in full agreement that the saturated grounds within the park pose a potential risk to the safety and comfort of those attending the fireworks display.
"As with all events held in Gateshead, the health and safety of all contractors and visitors is of paramount importance, whilst also considering the preservation of the park grounds for residents and visitors going forward. Therefore, it is with deep regret that Metro Radio and the council announce that this year's event is cancelled.
Meanwhile, it was announced that the junior parkrun event at Saltwell Park on Sunday (November 5) wouldn't be taking place either.
Sharing an image alongside the announcement, it showed flooding around the lake area of the park, while boggy grass could also be spotted in the picture.

Several other firework displays have been cancelled in the region this weekend already, including Beamish Hall and Spennymoor.
While some displays remain on, the Met Office warned that the severe weather could lead to some disruption with the risk of road closures and cancelled bus and train services, which was seen in the North East on Thursday with train services called off and roads flooded.
