A village pub landlord has announced that he will be shutting the door of one of his venues due to the continued cost of living crisis and rising costs.
Kevin Sanderson, who owns The Hope and Anchor in Greatham and The Spotted Cow in Elwick has over a decade of experience as a landlord but has been forced to make the tough decision to call time at one of the venues.
Mr Sanderson announced earlier this week that his connection with The Hope and Anchor would be ending after putting out an emotional statement online.
It is the latest business in the North East that has been forced to close due to running costs.
This includes The Fox & Hounds in Neasham, Darlington, which announced it would be closing, due to being unable to find a new tenant.
The news was announced to customers on The Hope and Anchor's Facebook page on Friday (October 27), which cited the 'ever-rising' costs operating costs as one reason for having to give up the venue.

The pub will now be shutting its doors for the last time on Friday, November 3.
Until a new tenant can be found for the venue, it will remain closed.
The post read: "Due to many contributing factors, and ever-rising operating costs, we have made the decision to close our doors [next week]. We will be serving till 8pm on Friday, November 3 and then close.

"At the present time, there isn't anybody else taking over the pub so The Hope and Anchor will remain closed until a new landlord takes over. Our phone line is currently down so please message us for any bookings or enquiries.
"All gift vouchers that have been purchased can still be used in our first pub, The Spotted Cow in Elwick.
"My lovely team and I, would like to thank you all for an amazing four years, its been a pleasure having you as our guests and hope to see you all in the future either at The Spotted Cow or in our next venture."
