A popular Darlington pub has closed its doors with immediate effect after months of "failed negotiations".

The Fox & Hounds pub in Neasham, in Darlington, has announced today (October 30) on social media it will be permanently closing.

It said it hopes an agreement with new tenants can be reached and the pub can reopen soon.

A spokesperson for the pub said: "We are sad to announce the permanent closure of The Fox and Hounds with immediate effect.

"After months of failed negotiations and uncertainty We hope Stonegate and the new tenants can reach an agreement to reopen the pub as soon as possible.

"Please be assured we will be contacting customers who have future bookings and all deposits will be returned."

Residents were left heartbroken by the news and wished the pub the best in the future.

One saddened resident said: "Sorry to hear this, hope the pub can reopen again soon."

Another shocked resident said: "Oh no, we were only there on Friday."

Another saddened resident added: "What a shame, this is the hub of Neasham village and loved by families from Darlington especially in the warmer months when the kids can play in the beautiful surroundings.

"We will miss this place but hopefully something can be resolved."

The venue boasts a four out of five rating on TripAdvisor and has received rave reviews for its meals and service.
