Hairy Biker Dave Myers revealed the story of a trout-ally “dreadful” fish tattoo which originates from a drunk night out in Darlington after a fishing expedition.
Speaking on Saturday Kitchen on the BBC as a panellist this morning (October 28), the 66-year-old re-told the story of a rather fin-tastic tattoo that didn’t quite go swimmingly.
In a segment discussing Paul Whitehouse and John Bailey's new book How We Fish, a fellow panellist spoke of how the fish illustrations were jokingly making him want to get a tattoo.
Interjecting, Hairy Biker Dave revealed he has a rather fishy tattoo himself and began to tell how the drunk night out left him with such a unique illustration.
He said: “Well, I’ve got a leaping trout.
“I was on a fishing expedition, and we got drunk and went back into Darlington. I caught a trout, took it to a tattooist and said: ‘Fish!’
“I said, I want the fly, as it was on a may fly.”
However, Dave simply ended up with a “leaping trout” instead.
He added: “It’s on my arm. The next day, I went out and looked – there was a fish and chip shop van and (the tattoo artist) had just copied the fish from there.
“I wanted it to look like a trout – but it’s dreadful. I’ve lived with it for years.”
After being prompted to reveal the tattoo and make it offishal, Dave declined.
Reacting to the episode, one Darlington resident admitted “it was very surreal” to see panellists discussing the town.

In the rest of the episode, fellow hairy biker Si King joined Dave to discuss their new book Ultimate Comfort Food.
Dave said: “The book is very personal – we started off with 200 ideas but whittled it down.
“When you start talking about comfort food, people have their own loves and passions. It has been good fun.”
