A Middlesbrough fan has been given a lifetime ban after invading the pitch during the club's home tie against Birmingham City.

The man entered the field of play from the North Stand after Morgan Rogers' goal on Saturday (October 27).

The club have said the fan was detained, his season card was seized, and he was ejected from the ground.

His account has also been suspended and the club reiterated anyone entering the field of play will get the same punishment.

A Middlesbrough FC spokesperson said: "The person who entered the field of play during last weekend's match against Birmingham City is facing a lifetime ban from the Riverside.

We are determined to ensure the Riverside is a safe and welcoming environment for all. 

"A number of supporters have been suspended, often alongside court-imposed football exclusion orders."

 The club have said they will not tolerate the following behaviours:

  • Entering the pitch while the game is in progress is a criminal offence, and will lead to a lifetime ban as well as court proceedings.
  • Abusive, threatening and/or discriminatory behaviour towards staff and other supporters
  • Carrying or using smoke bombs or pyrotechnics
  • Throwing objects onto the pitch
  • Drug use within the football ground
  • Drinking alcohol within view of the pitch

They added the above criminal offences could lead to court proceedings for which magistrates can issue football exclusion orders, alongside other punishments.

A number of fans have had their ticketing accounts suspended due to concession abuse. The club added concession abuse checks are carried out regularly, and those guilty face immediate suspension.

The club have asked anyone who sees or hears anything they are concerned about to report it using their matchday text line on 07340 718965, including details of the incident and where it took place.
