An investigation has been launched after a swan was 'deliberately' beheaded in a County Durham park last week.
The incident which took place in Riverside Park in Chester-le-Street, is believed to have taken place sometime between the evening of Thursday (October 19) and the early hours of Friday (October 20).
Durham Police have said enquiries are ongoing and CCTV is being checked.

Police have said they believe the attack was 'deliberate.'
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating after a swan was decapitated in what is being treated as a deliberate attack.
"Enquiries are ongoing, however CCTV from the area is being checked and anyone who witnessed anything is asked to get in touch.
"Neighbourhood officers are also carrying out regular patrols of the park.
"Anyone with any information is asked to email james.wise@durham.police.uk quoting incident reference 145 of October 20."
