LNER has warned train passengers 'do not travel' after Storm Babet caused flooding on several rail lines across the UK and the North East, as high winds and torrential rain are expected to continue on Saturday (October 21).
An amber warning for rain is in place across parts of the North East, while other areas have a yellow weather warning in place, as the storm continues to wreak havoc.
Across England, there were over 283 flood warnings and 243 alerts on Friday evening, while 55,000 people were left without power as a result of the storm.

On Saturday morning, LNER posted online that they were advising passengers 'do not travel', given the conditions of the train lines.
"LNERUpdate Severe weather is causing major disruption to train services. Many rail routes are suspended. Please do NOT travel today," the company said.

Meanwhile, Storm Babet caused chaos to communities in the North East on Friday, as the combination of wind, rain and waves knocking off the dome of South Shields pier lighthouse.
In images captured by the PA news agency, the dome can be seen floating in the harbour area of South Shields, while the news agency has also shared before images of the lighthouse.

Yellow and amber weather warnings for wind and rain have been issued to the North East after Storm Babet hit the North East late on Wednesday evening.

Events in the North East have been cancelled and authorities are urging the public to take caution as the storm continues to cause winds of over 25mph.
According to the Met Office forecast, the extreme weather is set to die down from 1pm on Saturday (October 21), where the likelihood of rain will fall from 50% to 10%.
Winds of up to 22mph will also fall to as low as 6mph by the end of the day.
