Winter weather is beginning to hit the region with frost expected across the North East.

Darlington residents can expect a frosty and cold start to the day, with early mist and fog patches clearing to leave a fine and dry day, with sunny spells.

The forecaster predicts sunshine may be hazy under high cloud and temperatures will remain below average.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Heavy rain will move northeastwards across parts of England and Wales Tuesday morning, followed by sunshine and showers."
