A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering one man and attempting to murder another with counter-terrorism officers called in.
Cleveland Police confirmed they are investigating the death of one man and the assault of another in the early hours in the Tees Street area of Hartlepool.
Specialist counter-terrorism cops have been brought in “due to initial inquiries into the circumstances of the incident”, Cleveland Police said.

One man, who has not been named, died and another remains in hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in police custody at this time. Searches are ongoing at a property in the area and cordon spanning much of the town remains in place.
Officers said they do not believe there is any outstanding threat to the public.
In a statement released this evening a force spokesperson said: “Cleveland Police are investigating the death of a man and the assault of another in the early hours of Sunday 15 October 2023 in the Tees Street area of Hartlepool.
“A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in custody.
“Due to initial inquiries into the circumstances of the incident, Cleveland Police are working with Counter Terrorism Policing North East on the investigation. Counter Terrorism Policing has deployed its specialist capabilities to help establish what happened.
“It is not believed that there is any outstanding threat to the public and the local community connected to this incident.
“A cordon remains in place and a search is ongoing at a property in the area.”
Officers descended on Hartlepool on Sunday (October 15) with crime scene investigators and cordons spotted across the town.
The ambulance service and air ambulance confirmed it attended the scene just after 5.40am.
"We were called to an incident on Raby Street, Hartlepool this morning (15 October) at 5:43am. We dispatched three ambulance crews and one doctor,” an ambulance service spokesperson said.

Many residents expressed confusion as to what had happened amid reports a knife had been recovered from a pavement.
Judith, who lives up one of the streets just off the cordon, told the Echo: “My son phoned me asking what had gone on and I looked out the window and saw the cordon.
“I didn't get to sleep til 1am so whatever has happened must have happened after that because I never heard anything.
“It's quite quiet usually. You don't expect anything like this to happen really.”
