A County Durham fly-tipper who spent a night in a prison cell after ignoring a fixed penalty notice for more than two years has appeared in court.

Danny Wilson, 20, formerly of Church Street, Coundon, Bishop Auckland, was in the dock at York Magistrates' Court after being issued with a fixed penalty notice in 2021.

A spokesperson for Durham County Council neighbourhood wardens said:" Wilson had tipped waste from his yard into the back street after a warden had spoken to him about disposing of it correctly.

The Northern Echo:

"An arrest warrant was issued and cops caught up with Wilson last week in York where he was arrested and spent the night and most of the next day in a cell before being brought before magistrates."

Wilson, now of Maple Close, Knaresborough, pleaded guilty to knowingly causing controlled waste, namely household waste, to be deposited in or on land at Church Street, without authority on May 10, 2021.
