A 17-year-old driver had to be cut from the wreckage of a vehicle by firefighters after her car left the road over the weekend, as the air ambulance was called to deal with the incident.

Emergency services attended the incident on Skelton Road in Boroughbridge at about 11.10am on Sunday (October 1) following reports of a one-car collision.

After arriving on the scene, police, fire crews and paramedics found that a Peugout 206 had left the road and had come to rest in a grassed area.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also called to the scene as a precautionary measure - due to the unknown injuries of a teenage driver of the vehicle.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has since confirmed that the driver, a 17-year-old woman, needed to be rescued through the windscreen of her vehicle but she didn't have any significant injuries.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Crews from Boroughbridge and Ripon responded to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision, where a Peugout 206 had left the road.

"Crews used a reciprocating saw to gain access to the vehicle via the windscreen and release one female aged approximately 17 from the vehicle.

"The female was uninjured and left in the care of the air ambulance service."
