PLANS have been submitted to Darlington Borough Council for a new tanning salon to move into a former car repair shop in North Road.

VIP Tanning Studio is moving from its position in 82 North Road, to 206 North Road.

External alterations including reinstatement of two windows to front(west) elevation; replacement of all windows with uPVC double glazed casement windows; infill four rear ground floor windows; removal of the external fire escape stairs; and provision of three car parking spaces to facilitate the conversion of the premises from automotive retail shop with dance studio on first floor, to a tanning salon, beauty salon, retail area and barbers shop.

In a planning statement provided in conjunction with the application for alterations at 206 North Road, Darlington, the applicants describe the changes needed for the new business.

The proposed modifications involve external changes to the existing automotive retail shop and dance studio on the first floor.

There is no requirement for a change of use for the proposed tanning salon, beauty salon, retail area, and barbers' shop.

The external alterations consist of the following: the reinstatement of two windows on the front (west) elevation.

All windows to be replaced with D/G uPVC and the removal of external fire escape stairs.

VIP Tanning Studio is in the process of relocating from its current leased premises at 82 North Road to a newly purchased property at 206 North Road.

During this transition, the studio intends to maintain continuity in its business operating procedures.

The studio will continue to offer walk-in services without the need for prior appointments. The established operating hours will remain unchanged: Monday to Saturday: 9am to 9pm; and Sunday: 10am to - 6pm.

The property proposes three designated private parking spaces within its rear yard.

Additionally, on-street parking is accessible both on North Road and Akrigg Street.
