Today we name seven people who have appeared in court in September for shoplifting.
They were all charged with theft from a shop and received a wide range of sentences after appearing in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court.
Pleas of guilty were entered in all the cases.
They were:
Kerry Long, 37,, of Bouch Street, Shildon, was charged with stealing three Maybelline mascaras valued at £35.97 from Boots in Darlington, on Sunday (September 24 ). A guilty plea was indicated.
Magistrates imposed a community order which included a nine-month non-residential drug rehabilitation programme under probation officer direction.
Julie Lowery, 41, of Ascot Place, Chester-le-Street, was charged with stealing Tunnocks tea cakes of an unknown value, from Tesco, on August 16.
A plea of guilty was indicated. She was given a conditional discharge of six months and ordered to pay compensation of £2 and ordered to pay costs of £85.
Katrina Naisbitt, 37 of Avon Street, Easington Colliery was charged with the theft of boxes of chocolates valued at £150. from the Co-0p in Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery on September 20.
A guilty plea was entered. She was given a conditional discharge of 12 months and ordered to pay 12 months compensation as well as surcharge of £85, costs of £85 and £150 in compensation.
Stacey Aldworth, 35, of Half Moon Lane, Spennymoor, was charged with stealing steak worth £129 from Marks and Spencer in Bishop Auckland, on August 20.
She pleaded guilty to the charge. Magistrates deemed her a "professional criminal" and she was handed an eight-week jail suspended for 18 months. The court noted she had a "flagrant disregard for people and their property".
She was ordered to undergo a non-residential drug rehabilitation programme, with her progress reviewed monthly. The court ordered she pay compensation of £129.
Jakey Smith, 25, of Sun Street, Darlington, was charged with stealing cleaning products worth £88 from a Spar store in Darlington on July 26. He was also charged with stealing two bottles of wine worth £20 from the Spa on August 25..
A plea of guilty was entered. He was given a 16-week prison sentence suspected for 18 Months, for the first offence and 4 weeks suspended concurrently for the second. He was ordered to pay compensation of £80 and £20, respectively.
Joshua Cilke, 27, of New Row, Eldon, Bishop Auckland, Durham, was charged with stealing alcohol worth £26 from Aldi in Newton Aycliffe, on February 22. He pleaded guilty.
Cilke was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £85.

Katie Howe, 33, of Tindale Green, Newton Aycliffe, was charged with stealing 12 bottles of Fairy non-bio liquid gel worth £68.28 from the Post Office in Middleton St George, on July 23.
She pleaded guilty to the charge. She was ordered to pay compensation of and fined £40.
