Four people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving a police car on a North East road.

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a crash on Barrack Road, in Newcastle, shortly after 7pm today (September 20).

A Northumbria Police spokesperson confirmed the crash involved a police vehicle and another car.

They said: “Shortly after 7.10pm today (Wednesday) police were alerted to a two-vehicle collision on Barrack Road in Fenham, near to the junction with Brighton Grove.

“Emergency services attended the scene where it was reported that two cars had been involved, including a Northumbria Police vehicle.

“Thankfully nobody was believed to have suffered serious injuries. Part of the road was temporarily closed but has since been re-opened.

“Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses or those with dashcam footage should contact police using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website, or by calling 101, quoting reference number NP-20230920-1053.”

A NEAS spokesperson said they deployed three emergency ambulance crews and a Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.

They confirmed four people had been taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call to 999 at 19:10 this evening to reports of a two vehicle road traffic incident on Barrack Road in Newcastle. 

"We sent three emergency ambulance crews and a Hazardous Area Response Team. 

"Four patients in total were taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment."
