A North East police force has paid tribute to a long-serving police dog - who recently died after six years of service. 

PD Teal worked with North Yorkshire Police for six, years, starting her service in 2013. She retired in 2018 - after helping police in investigations all over the county. 

She also assisted in high-profile and high-attendance events - helping to keep both the public and VIPs safe.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "We are today paying tribute to retired police dog Teal who has sadly passed away aged 12 ½.

"Teal served with us between 2013 -2018. She was trained to search for drugs, cash and weapons.

"During her time with us, Teal travelled to all corners of North Yorkshire and searched in a huge variety of buildings and vehicles.

"Teal was also deployed to several high-profile events to help keep VIPs and members of the public safe.
