A woman who failed to clean up her dog's poo after neighbourhood wardens asked her to has been ordered to pay more than £500 in fines and costs.

Lee-Ann Burke of Fountains Square, St Helens Auckland, was prosecuted by Durham County Council following the incident on March 6.

The case was heard in her absence at Peterlee Magistrates' Court after she failed to pay a fixed penalty notice.  

Magistrates were told neighbourhood wardens had asked her to clean up after witnessing the dog fouling on a grassed area in Tintern Road, St Helens Auckland.

The court was told the woman had said she would comply with the request, but the wardens watched as she just left it.

Burke was charged with failing to comply with a public spaces protection order contrary to the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Magistrates found the case proved in her absence and fined Burke £220. They further ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £220 and a surcharge of £88.
