“A 22-year-old man has now been charged with sexual assault and is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle today (Thursday, September 14).
“We'll continue to carry out increased patrols in and around the area, and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak to us.”
Police have urged members of the public to avoid any speculation – both on social media and out in the community – that could jeopardise the live legal proceedings.
