A North East restaurant that is said to be one of the most popular delivery venues on JustEat has announced its closure, blaming the “killer” energy crisis.
Twiddy’s Grub House on York Road, Hartlepool, confirmed on its social media on Sunday, August 28 that its last trading day was on Saturday.
The American restaurant broke the news to its 2,400 followers, saying that the cost-of-living crisis has pushed them out of business despite being busy and often fully booked.

The post on Facebook reads: “We have had continuous growth, month-on-month increase in orders and revenue. We have been confirmed as the most popular and busiest venue on Just Eat for takeout in Hartlepool for the past 6 months straight.
“We have delivered the best and most loved food in Hartlepool. All of this is despite the cost of living crisis. People have continued to dine with us day in, day out. However, the energy crisis is a killer.
“Our electricity bill has increased from £60-80 per month to £2000 per month... and the most recent bills coming in at £5000 per month. My most recent invoice is over £28k - and we are a small restaurant. These continued energy increases are just not viable for any business.
“So it is with a heavy heart that I announce we have stopped trading as Twiddy's. Our last day open was yesterday - ending on a high with the incredible Celeste St.Clair and Dita Von Teesside at our sold-out Drag Brunch.”
“We just will not continue facing the spikes in energy costs. I do not believe it is fair and makes business so difficult to predict.”

Despite the closure, owners Owen, Lloyd, Karen and Laurie confirmed that “Twiddy’s will be back” when energy prices become “more reasonable”.
Fans of the restaurant have since flooded the comments expressing their devastation at the news, with one saying they are “absolutely gutted”.
Another said they were “really sorry to read this” adding that he hopes they one day “bounce back”.
