A 34-year-old man from Middlesbrough was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash involving three cars as two men have been arrested.

The incident happened on Sunday, August 20 at around 8.20pm on Blakey Ridge between Hutton-le-Hole and Castleton on the North York Moors.

It happened around one-and-a-half miles south of the Lion Inn near the turn-offs to Farndale and Rosedale.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash, a grey BMW, a grey Audi and a grey Honda Civic all travelling in the same direction.

The driver of the Honda, a 34-year-old man from Middlesbrough was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men, the driver of the BMW and Audi, both from Middlesbrough, were arrested in connection with the incident but have been released under investigation.

North Yorkshire Police are now appealing for dashcam footage of the crash and the manner of driving of the three vehicles in the moments before the crash.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The road was closed to allow all emergency services to attend the collision and to allow collision investigators to examine the scene and recover the vehicles. It reopened at around 8am the following day.”
