There are lots of things budding runners will be slowly ticking off their to-do list as they head into the final countdown for the Great North Run 2023.
Taking participants from the “city to the coast”, the route begins in Newcastle and finishes at South Shields on September 10.
Whether you’re running for charity dressed in a fruit costume or you’re hoping to complete the world’s biggest half-marathon because it’s always been on your bucket list, it’s going to be a day to remember.

How to find runner times for the Great North Run 2023
The best way to find your running time result is by using your race number.
The Great North Run website advises: “On the results landing page, enter your race number into the search box, choose your event and click search.
“You can also search by the runner’s name and you will get a list of all the people matching that name.
“Finally, you can do a more complex search using the advanced search page where there are lots of options to refine the criteria of the person you are searching for.”
How to use the Great North Run 2023 tracker app
You can download the Great North Run 2023 tracker app on the day of the event to track participants on event day, view live leaderboards, results and much more.
The app says: “Get the most out of your race day experience with live tracking, access to split times and results, interactive course maps and the important information you need on the day.”

What are the average and record times to complete the Great North Run?
The distance of the Great North Run is 13.1 miles.
If you’re hoping to run a personal best or you have no time limit in mind, the average time to complete the half-marathon for beginners is around 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours, reports TimeOutdoors.
A more experienced runner could expect to complete the route in under 2 hours.
The current men’s record for the Great North Run is held by Kenyan Olympic runner Martin Mathathi for 58:56 in 2011.
Meanwhile, the current women’s record holder for the iconic half-marathon is Kenyan runner Mary Keitany who ran 1:05:39 in 2014.
