A group of high-achieving young women have been celebrating their stellar A-Level results that will now see them all head on to study medicine at top universities.

Talented girls from Dame Allan’s Girls School in Newcastle Upon Tyne achieved a combined thirteen A* and ten A grades in their A-Level examinations that they sat in May and June of this year.

Following their fantastic results, the future doctors have been celebrating as they prepare to head off to university in September.

Molly Hamilton, from Newcastle, achieved straight A* grades in A Level Biology Chemistry and Maths, and will study Medicine at the University of Glasgow – following in the footsteps of her anaesthetist father, Dr David Hamilton, and her mother, Claire, a GP.

She said: “I’m really happy and very relieved! It’s been a stressful few weeks in the run up to results day after an unsettling few years with Covid.

“It affected everyone in the year, but we’ve had lots of support in the school.”

Megan Paes, from Gosforth, who achieved straight 9s at GCSE, continued her success at A Level with a straight set of A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and a grade A in Further Maths.

She said: “I’m glad the waiting is over and I’m really pleased with my results. I’ve always been interested in the sciences and growing up around parents who are medics has made me really passionate about it.

“I’ve also had so much support from the school and the mock interviews they run definitely helped when I applied to study medicine.”

Sriya Sagi, from Newcastle, who led the school’s popular Medical Society MedSoc while in Year 12, received A* grades in Biology and Economics, an A in Chemistry and an A in an EPQ. She is going to Keele University to study Medicine.

Two students from Whickham, in Gateshead, also secured university places to study Medicine.

Martina Rosher achieved straight As in Chemistry, Maths and Psychology and has accepted a place at the University of Leicester, while Melissa Young achieved A*s in Psychology and Biology and an A in Chemistry to secure a place at the University of Liverpool.

Anna Sudlow, from Gosforth, received As in Biology and Chemistry and an A* in History and will study Medicine at the University of Sheffield, while Meerab Khan achieved A*s in Biology and Spanish and an A in Chemistry and will head to the University of Exeter.
