Police have seized a quantity of cannabis and large amount of cultivation equipment during a raid of a house on Darlington yesterday (Wednesday, August 17).

Officers struck at the property in the town's Brinkburn Road after getting reports about suspicious activity at the address.

Police arrested three people at the property, including one who tried to get away through the skylight.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “Officers from Darlington Police carried out a warrant at a house in Brinkburn Road yesterday morning after receiving reports of suspicious activity at the address.

“Three men were found at the scene, including one who allegedly tried to escape through the property’s skylight and onto the roof.

“A search of the property found drug paraphernalia, a quantity of cannabis, and a large amount of cultivation equipment, which was seized by officers.”

Police said the electricity at the address had also been bypassed, making the property hazardous to neighbouring homes.

Two men aged 23 and one aged 26 were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and abstraction of electricity.

They were subsequently charged with the offences and remanded to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, August 17).

The warrant was carried out as part of Operation Arizona – Durham Constabulary’s operation to target crime and antisocial behaviour.
