An adorable puppy has had a 'ruff' day after getting himself stuck in a fence - but thankfully, bemused firefighters were close on hand to rescue him.

Buddy the Shih Tzu got himself into a sticky situation last week (Wednesday, August 9), becoming lodged in a fence whilst on a walk in Wallsend, North Tyneside.

Though Buddy wasn't in discomfort, owner Brenda was not able to get her puppy free on her own, and called in firefighters for help.

Nearby Tyne and Wear firefighters were available to assist - and after using some specialist equipment, Buddy was freed uninjured, and is now back to his rambunctious self.

"She reluctantly called for our support and, as our firefighters were nearby and available, they attended to help the pair out.
