A major North East A-road was partly blocked this morning (August 16) after a dead deer lay across two lanes of the route.
Those who were travelling on the A698 in Hartlepool, near the Greatham turn-off, reported seeing the dead animal, who was laid partly in the left lane of the southbound carriageway.
Drivers that saw the animal were reportedly having to change lanes as they approached the roadkill, while others said that there was disruption travelling along the A689, due to cars having to stop abruptly.

Despite the blockage on the road, there has been no report of collisions caused by slowing down vehicles.
One road user, who had completed their journey but had spotted the dead deer, told The Northern Echo: "It was difficult to see the animal on the road and some other cars that were on the road only just stopped in time.
"If I was driving a big truck, I'd be worried because I think HGV drivers would find it very difficult to stop in time."
Cleveland Police confirmed that they were aware of the dead animal in the road, and planned to clear it.
