A North East bridge has been re-opened after a huge police response to an incident this morning.
Wearmouth Bridge was closed from 6.00am as police and fire services responded to an emergency.
Multiple fire engines and police vehicles were seen on the bridge and traffic built up on both sides of the bridge while the incident was dealt with.
Northumbria Police have confirmed that they had received a report of concern for a female on the bridge.

Wearmouth Bridge has now been re-opened and traffic is now moving freely in the area.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 5am today (Tuesday), we received a report of concern for a female on the wrong side of the railings on Wearmouth Bridge, in Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended and the female has now been brought to safety.
“She has been referred to specialist support services.
“Wearmouth Bridge, which was closed to traffic while emergency services were in attendance, has now re-opened.”
