While serving his sentence at HMP Garth in Leyland Adey met Sheffield gangster Byron Naylor, who was serving 20 years for stabbing a man 100 times with a bladed knuckleduster.
Preston Crown Court heard the friendship ended in November 2021 when Adey said Naylor bullied him.
CCTV played in court showed Adey loitering on the corridor outside the shower block waiting for Naylor who emerged wearing only a towel around his waist.
Adey used a blade to inflict a deep slice wound on Naylors arm, from shoulder to elbow, causing the muscle to split leaving bones exposed.
The court heard the prison went into lockdown as a ‘code red’ alert was raised.
When questioned in his cell Adey produced a craft knife and said he had not wanted to hurt Naylor but to give him ‘a warning’.
He pleaded guilty to GBH with intent in May and was transferred to HMP Swaleside, a high security prison in Kent.
The Honorary Recorder of Preston, Judge Robert Altham said the attack took ‘careful planning’.
