Lifeboat crews were called out on Tuesday (August 8) evening after a personal locator beacon went off, prompting fears someone may have been in trouble at sea.
Hartlepool RNLI crews were called to investigate after the beacon was activated in the Paddy’s Hole area, near Redcar on the River Tees.
They were called out just after 7.15pm and specialist equipment was used to try and locate the beacon.

It was found inland a short time later and no one was found with the beacon.
Inshore lifeboat helm Ken Hay said: “The beacon was eventually located inland at the site but we initially had to take the incident seriously as it may have been someone in trouble at sea, but a quick response from ourselves and the local Coastguard team meant that the incident was brought to a safe and satisfactory end.”
The lifeboat returned to base at around 8pm.
