There are so many factors to consider when it comes to choosing your favourite pub in Northumberland, including how many types of beer they have and whether it is dog-friendly.
But one pub in the county has been named among the “official” prettiest country pubs in the UK.
Lord Crewe Arms was featured on the top 10 list according to research by house rental company Big House Experience.
To find out which pubs were the nation’s prettiest, the experts analysed Instagram hashtag data for over 200 country pubs that were described as "beautiful" in trusted publications over the past two years, as reported by Time Out.
Lord Crewe Arms named among UK’s most picturesque pubs
On the Lord Crewe Arms website, it describes itself as: “Nestled in the honey-stone village of Blanchland, beneath a cloak of forests and heath, stands our storybook bolthole, Lord Crewe Arms.
“Offering the warmth of twenty-six bedrooms, each decorated in soothing North Pennine hues, we're ideally positioned for a relaxing northeast getaway.
“Soaked in Northumberland soul – this is hillside living with heart, and we’re pretty sure you’ll love us for it.”
Dog lovers can also bring their fluffy companions along if they wish to stay the night after a hearty meal and a tipple or two to explore the scenic surroundings.
Lord Crewe Arms offer “pawsome retreats” - an overnight stay that includes a dog welcome letter, cosy bed, bowl, towel and treats (extra charges apply to more than one dog).
As part of this package, visitors can also expect a welcome drink in The Crypt Bar for both human and four-legged friends (they can have a Woof beer or a Woofin treat).
They can also provide dinner for your dogs.
On Tripadvisor, the pub has a current rating of 4.5/5 out of 863 reviews.
A recent customer said: “We stopped into the Lord Crewe Arms while passing through on a long-distance charity cycle ride.
“The pub was so warm and welcoming and a gorgeous place to stop for lunch. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a light lunch but found the food to be top-notch and really enjoyable. We could have stayed there all afternoon. In fact, we nearly did.
“There was not a massive selection of places to stop, but I am so pleased that we found this little gem and I can't wait to re-visit when I have a bit more time and don't need to get back on a bike!!”
