A three-car crash closed one of the Tyne Tunnels on Tuesday (August 1) morning causing huge rush hour delays on the A19.
The southbound tunnel was temporarily closed to traffic while emergency services attended the scene.
Three vehicles were involved in the incident shortly after 7am and one person was taken to hospital for a check-over.
No one was seriously injured, and the road was unblocked before being reopened to drivers.
The incident caused huge delays on the A19 as motorists headed to work with queues of up to half an hour, according to the traffic sensors.

The incident was cleared shortly after 8am.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7am today (Tuesday) police received a report of a collision involving three vehicles on the A19 Tyne Tunnel southbound in Jarrow.
“Emergency services attended the scene where no life-threatening injuries were reported. One person was taken to hospital to be checked over. The road was temporarily blocked but has since been cleared.”
