Drinks were flowing and foodies were in heaven today (July 30) for a food festival serving everything from cheese, churros, and cocktails – are you in any of our pictures?

Saltburn Food Festival drew crowds today as food lovers gathered from across the North East and North Yorkshire to sample anything from pies to gyros and brownies.

This was the first festival that has been held since before the pandemic, and residents were clearly thrilled by this as they could be seen making the most of the sunny weather.

The streets, that had been cordoned off, were filled as people made their way around each individual stall sipping beers and cocktails, with some even bringing their dogs along for the day.

Shuttle buses had even been set up to cope with demand, with services running from Redcar and Guisborough to bring people in.

Those wanting a break from the crowds were also able to sit down and watch live demonstrations at the Live Food Theatre from chefs by the railway station or wander amongst some bric-a-brac stalls that had been set up selling anything from dishes to books.

For store holder Lynn Clayton of Blueberry Hill Preserves, the day was a resounding success as she was left with very little of her stock by late in the afternoon.

Lynn sold a mixture of cheese, chutneys and jams at her stall which was clearly a hit with attendees – and we even sampled some whilst we were there.

“We always come here every year and it is a pleasure, it’s a really nice event”, she said. “I am down to my last few bits now!”

For other store holders including David Richardson from the Canny Candy Gadgies, business had been good as he was left with barely any stock left.

Hand-made fudge including maple bacon flavour, orange marmalade and cherry Bakewell flavour was up for grabs – but they were nearly all gone even though there were originally “over forty flavours” available.

David said he had had a brilliant day in Saltburn but is looking forward now to Seaham Food Festival where he will also have a stall.
