A-Level results day can be an exciting time for many students as they celebrate achieving the grades they need to get on to their chosen university course. For others, results day brings a host of difficult decisions. What if you haven’t secured a place to study, don’t feel ready to move away from home or don’t want to study a degree? If you’re struggling with these choices, then New College Durham University Centre could be your perfect solution.
NCD University Centre offers the same high-quality qualifications you would get at university but with a more personal and supportive experience along the way. There are a huge range of courses to choose from including degrees, foundation degrees, professional qualifications and degree apprenticeships with places available to start in September 2023. What’s more, when you join a new full time course, you will get a £500 cash bursary from the NCD University Centre Study Fund to boost your student finances.
Learning is delivered in informal classroom settings and class sizes are smaller, creating a supportive and friendly experience. As the college is based in the North East you can stay close to family and friends and continue with your part time job. Brooklyn Sams chose to study FdA Performing Arts at NCD University Centre because she wanted to stay in Durham. She said:
“The college was easy to travel to and I was able to stay near home where I am comfortable. The small class sizes mean that everyone gets lots of support and attention.”
Many of the College’s programmes are designed in partnership with local and national businesses so you graduate with the skills and qualities employers want. The courses are taught by qualified teaching staff with industry experience. Emily O’Neil was impressed by the quality of the teaching staff on her BSc (Hons) Cyber Security course. She said:
“The tutors are enthusiastic about their subjects and make lessons exciting but also informative. Students are given many opportunities to work together and develop friendships. The positive emphasis on learning and the sense of belonging within the college encouraged me to pursue higher education”.
The modern campus is big enough to have all the facilities you need, yet small enough to feel you belong. The facilities include a dedicated University Centre building exclusively for higher education students. You will also have access to the state-of-the-art resources in the North East Institute of Technology and the cutting edge facilities in the brand new Technical and Higher Education Hub.
Peter Morrison is Vice Principal for Higher Education at New College Durham. He said: “When you become a student at New College Durham you are joining a top performing college with a wealth of experience delivering higher education programmes. All our qualifications are validated by official awarding bodies and face the same rigorous checks as universities, so you can be sure you will get a first-class education.”
