A 100-year-old has shared her secret to a long life as she celebrates her 100th birthday.
Doris Walker grew up in Howden-le-Wear with her mum, four sisters and three brothers, after her father passed away during the First World War.
She worked for the ammunition factory as part of the fire stations in Aycliffe and at the age of 22 she married “a very handsome man” called Alan.
Doris and Alan loved to dance the Tango and carried on dancing well into their eighties. The couple had three daughters and a son and Doris now has six grandchildren.
Sharing her secret to a reaching 100 she said: “To be content, to have no arguments and to be a family.”

Doris received a birthday card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla for her big day and was joined by her family at her care home, Barrington Lodge in Bishop Auckland.
Care home manager Maninder Matharoo said: “Doris is a wonderful lady who everyone here at Barrington Lodge adores.
“We have all been waiting very eagerly for her birthday and it was an honour and a delight to spend it with her.”
