Fire crews were called out on Wednesday teatime to battle a fire in a corn field just off the A1.
The blaze started in a field on the opposite side of the A1(M) at Bowburn, near the A688, shortly after 5.45pm on Wednesday (July 26).
A large area of the field two kilometres by half a kilometre wide was affected with fire crews battling the flames.
They were extinguished a short time later and the last fire engine left the scene an hour later at 6.45pm.

A spokesperson for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “The fire was on the other side of the A1 at Bowburn, it was just off the A688.
“We got the initial call into us at 5.46pm but it was all dealt with and the last pump left at 6.46pm.
“It was quite a big area but they managed to get it in control quite quickly and stood crews down.”
