A pub in the North East has been listed amongst many finalists at the Great British Pub Awards 2023.
This year there have been a number of record entrants for the awards which have been “whittled down to the very best the nation has to offer.”
The Beresford Arms in Morpeth, Northumberland has been shortlisted for ‘Best Pub for Food’ which is sponsored by Booker Makro.
Carpenter’s Arms in Felixkirk, Thirsk, North Yorkshire has also been shortlisted in the same category.

The two venues also feature alongside other foodie places at the Great British Pub Awards 2023 including:
- The Hinds Head - Bray, Berkshire
- The Loch & The Tyne - Old Windsor, Berkshire
- The Bulls Head - Holymoorside, Chesterfield, Derbyshire
- Shibden Mill Inn - Halifax, West Yorkshire
The Beresford Arms is known for its “homemade Northumbrian dishes and pub classics with a ‘Beresford twist’” in the restaurant and dog-friendly bar area.
The website adds: “Our kitchen uses produce from local suppliers and we also have a range of cask and keg beers from breweries within Northumberland.”
The pub is also surrounded by some of the area's top attractions, including Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, Cragside House and Northumberlandia.
On Tripadvisor, The Beresford Arms currently has a 4/5 rating.
Someone who called in for a Sunday lunch, wrote: “Perfection ! Enjoyed every tasty morsel of our Sunday lunch. Delightful environment and charming staff. Perfection says it all.”
Meanwhile, another customer wrote this review: “This was an exceptionally great gastronomic experience!
“Quite the best meal we’ve had in at least a decade and believe me we have high standards, I tried the hanger steak and my husband had the seabass, unbeatable!”

The Great British Pub Awards 2023 is taking place on Tuesday, September 19 at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.
