A man has been charged with attempted murder and firearms offences after an incident at Britain’s highest pub last week in the Yorkshire Dales , police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the Tan Hill Inn in Swaledale at about 10.40pm on Friday (July 21) to attend a man in his 40s who had sustained serious arm injuries.

The victim was taken to hospital for further treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 46-year-old man has since been charged with attempted murder, firearms offences, ABH and battery.

He is in custody and is due to appear at York Magistrates Court today (Monday, July 24).

A woman was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, but she has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

North Yorkshire Police said there were several people were at the 400-year-old pub at the time of the incident and have appealed to the public for information.
