Heavy rain has forced today's Redcar Races meeting to be abandoned due to a waterlogged track.
The meeting was due to be Redcar's annual Circus Family Fun Day, with family-friendly entertainment provided, alongside seven races.
However, the racecourse announced the abandonment on social media after an 8am inspection.
Redcar's general manager, Amy Fair, said: "We are desperately disappointed that Circus Family Fun Day – one of the family highlights of our season, and an important part of the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival – is unable to go ahead due to the vagaries of the British weather.
"Despite everyone’s best efforts, there is standing water on the course, with more rain forecast, so we have had to make the hugely regrettable decision to abandon the meeting. After all the planning that went into making it a family-friendly day, combined with seven competitive races, it is hugely frustrating for everyone concerned but we have been left with no choice."
- Anyone who has bought their tickets in advance will be automatically refunded. There is no need to contact the course.
