A man was taken to hospital following a crash near Hartlepool this morning.

The incident occurred on the A689 Eastbound near the ‘Welcome to Hartlepool sign just after 5:30am today (Thursday, July 20).

A 35-year-old male driver crashed into the sign and injured his leg. He was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees.

Cleveland Police is now appealing to the public for information or dash cam footage to come forward as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage after a collision on the A689 towards Hartlepool.

“The incident happened around 5:35 this morning, Thursday, July 20, on the A689 Eastbound near to the ‘welcome to Hartlepool’ sign.

“A Ford Focus collided with the sign, leaving the male driver, aged 35, with an injury to his leg. He was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees for treatment.

“Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with dash cam footage, is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting incident number 142856.”
