Police are investigating a suspected arson at a derelict North East hotel after a number of people were reportedly seen entering the building before a fire broke out last night (Tuesday, July 19).
Emergency services were alerted to the fire at the former Golden Eagle Hotel in Trenchard Avenue, Thornaby at about 7pm.
The Cleveland Fire Brigade dispatched five appliances to the scene, while police were also in attendance.

A spokesperson for the service said today: "We were called to an incident at 7.01pm on Tuesday at the Golden Eagle Hotel in Thornaby.
"Five fire engines were in attendance - from Thornaby, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Saltburn.
"There was 2 per cent internal fire damage and 2 per cent smoke damage to the derelict building.
"Nine breathing apparatus and three jets used. We left the scene at 9.27pm. The cause is believed to be deliberate."
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "We were called to a suspected arson at The Golden Eagle Hotel in Thornaby at around 6.30pm on Tuesday 18th July.

"It was reported that a number of people entered the building, which is derelict, and a fire was started inside the building causing minor damage.
"No one was injured. Enquiries are ongoing.
